Paulina Peak is the high point of Newberry Volcanic National Monument and features an impressive view of the entire caldera. Directly below are Paulina and East Lakes, as well as the Big Obsidian Flow. To the east, one can see Fort Rock and the ranges of eastern Oregon. To the west, a clear day will give you a view of the Cascades that stretches from Mt Shasta in California to Mt Adams in Washington.
While one can drive to the summit of Paulina Peak (seasonally), the better experience is to take the trail to the summit from down below. This also is an option during the time of year when the road is closed and is frequently snowshoed in the winter.
