The McKenzie River begins at the outflow of Clear Lake but soon disappears underground as it passes through a lava flow. The water later re-emerges from the volcanic rock at the Tamolitch Blue Pool. The pool is known for its bright clear blue color, reminiscent of Windex.
This describes the in and out hike from the Blue Pool trailhead, but you can include a visit to the Tamolitch Blue Pool as part of a longer hike along the McKenzie River Trail in Willamette National Forest.
