Last weekend we popped over to the Eastern Sierra to check out how the fall color is coming along. This doesn’t seem to be a terrific year. Many trees are already bare, while others are still green with a summer vibrancy. We found a few groves that are in that in-between sweet spot with color, but not a lot. Here are a couple of shots from the good spots we found.
First, we popped up to North Lake to look around. The trees along the road and around the lake were either bare or green, but we did find some nice alcoves of color.
Next, we drove up to Lake Sabrina. It has definitely improved since our Labor Day visit.
But the colors along the creek haven’t really gotten going.
Finally, we did a 4×4 drive up Copper Mountain for the view into Lundy Canyon. It turns out that Lundy was rather bland and disappointing, but there were some nice groves to drive through on our way to the summit.
Good luck to any peepers who head out in the coming weeks! Hopefully the ones that are still green will have a chance to turn before weather strips the leaves. For more photos and an idea of color coverage, check out the photo album linked above.
