The Great American Beer Festival

The Great American Beer Festival

We finally got to Denver for GABF! But before heading to town we did a morning hike in the Flatirons of Boulder. We figured it would be good to get in some exercise before the days of indulgence at GABF. As much fun as this festival is, I’m glad it’s only once a year!
Morning hike with coffee to the first Flatiron:

Sipping coffee while switchbacking up 1400 ft takes skill…
Now that we have the healthy part of the day out of the way, it’s off to Denver for GABF!

We had tickets for an area called the ‘farm to table’ pavilion, where several breweries teamed up with famous chefs to create pairings. Here is chef Tom Worthington from the Monterey Fish Market of San Francisco at the fresh oyster bar paired with CH Evans Oatmeal Stout.

Last year David bought his hops western shirt in Denver. It’s made him very popular at beer events. (outside of beer events? People wonder why he’s wearing a shirt with pinecones…) But we found his twin at GABF.

And we also found some drunk squirrels. As you do.

On Friday we skipped the GABF sessions in favor or some peripheral events like the Rare Beer tasting fundraiser for Pints for Prostates and the Crooked State WTF?! (What the Funk) event. There is too much beer to choose from on the show floor, so I enjoy these events because someone else is doing the curation and finding the good beers for us.
