We were struggling to find a good three day backpack for the Labor Day weekend where we would be able to pick up permits at the last minute. Ron came to the rescue last week when he offered up two spots on his permit for the Cottonwood Lakes trailhead for a two night stay at Long Lake below New Army Pass, with a climb up Mt. Langley. (This was our original choice, but when I checked into it last month, permits were all booked).
We met the group in camp on Saturday. Paige and Maria had spent the day exploring the Cottonwood Lakes, and Ron, the two Franks, and Jim had climbed Cirque Peak. On Sunday, Ron and David and I headed for the summit of Langley. We made excellent time and I really enjoyed the hike – luckily Ron had been up there before and knew the easy class 1 route so we avoided all of the annoying rock hopping that most people seem to encounter on the peak.
