Introducing Mighty Thor

If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram I am sure you are already aware of this exciting news. So consider this the formal announcement. We have expanded our small family by 50%! Introducing Mighty Thor, ruler of naps, the back yard, and our hearts. We’re still working on the ‘Mighty’ part, but he’s big and blonde so Thor seems to be a good name. David picked out the name long ago, but I wanted to make sure the name fit before I committed to it.

Thor on the way to his forever home!
Thor on the way to his forever home!

Thor is an 8 week old yellow labrador retriever who came home with us on March 1 and we love him to pieces. While he has all the annoying characteristics of a baby lab (hello bitey shark teeth), he is mellow and cuddly and adorable. We look forward to raising him to be a wonderful companion. He’s a big boy, coming from a small litter with little competition for mama’s milk. He has three sassy sisters who picked on him even though he was much bigger than them. We don’t know how big he’ll be when he’s full grown, but we expect some mass on this guy! I swear his otter tail has already gained 5 lbs since Saturday.

Labs need to grow into their bodies before they begin serious activity, so to help prevent any long term arthritis or hip/elbow issues he won’t be going on any hard adventures until he’s older. We’ll be spending the next year focusing on training and working on his trail manners so he becomes a reliable and fun adventure buddy. You can count on Thor making regular guest appearances here!

This is his favorite sleeping position, just like his mama. No shame.

No shame
No shame

I’m completely smitten.

Named after the dog from cliffhanger I assume.

I didn’t even know there was a dog named Thor in cliffhanger! Since Thor will be spending time in my husband’s blacksmith shop we figured it was a good name for a pup that would be hanging around a bunch of hammers.

Naming animals after mythological figures is always a good move. It’s especially adorable when they are babies. (not that they ever need help with that!)
Thor’s IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1565245/?ref_=ttfc_fc_cl_t29. I love that he also played “Pirate Dog”
