A Week in Mojave and Death Valley
Predictably, we spent the Thanksgiving week in the deserts of Southern California. This year’s trip stuck to Mojave and Death Valley with a chunk of Las Vegas wedged in between. I’m in the process of posting photos and blog entries and they’ll be popping up here over the next few days. A brief glance at our itinerary and the excitement to come:
Day 1: Black and Inscription Canyons (petroglyphs and 4×4) and Afton Canyon (hiking)
Day 2: Afton Canyon (4×4 and hiking), Zzyzyx (cool name), Cow Cove Petroglyphs
Day 3: Hole-In-The-Wall and Mitchell Caverns
Day 4: Hart Townsite (mining ruins) and Keyhole Canyon (rock art and dryfall)
Day 5: (vegas indulgence)
Day 6: Red Rock Canyon and Death Valley Thanksgiving FeastĀ
Day 7: Ibex Peak and New American Mine (hiking and peak bagging)
Day 8: Warm Springs and Arrastre Canyon (4×4 and hiking)

i’m particularly looking forward to Afton Canyon, since then i’ll get to relive what seems like a ghost memory in my mind. bizarre place in the middle of nowhere right off the interstate! or something.
